The Wind Turbine Project

 Turbine

The Chew Valley School Wind Turbine was installed on July 18th 2008.  It is a 6kw wind turbine on 15 metre post and is capable of generating enough electricity to save the school approx. £1,000 / annum at current prices.  This energy yield is equivalent to running 20 Dell computers with LCD monitors continuously for 579 days.  The government also pays the school up to £700 a year to generate electricity.  We can also save the emission of 3,505kg of CO2.  Of course, all this data depends on the weather or more specifically, the wind.

The £33,000 cost of the project was raised from donations by EDF, Aeolus, Natural Watt LCBP and BMT-Isis.

From next October you will be able to see just what the turbine is doing and producing when we launch our new interactive turbine website.

Our thanks to Mrs Paddy Brading and students from Chew Valley School Community Council for their imagination and hard work in bringing this project to fruition.  It is a very visible symbol of the school's commitment to sustainability.
